This year, GLOBE and FIERCE worked together to host Capoeira on the Pier: one of our free summer programming events on the piers. FIERCE also mobilized to support GLOBE’s 5th Annual Bushwich Pride March.
Media Crew Members Balder and Stitch sat down recently to talk to GLOBE’s Karina Claudio about their work. Here’s what Karina had to say:
Future Fridays // Budgeting 101

Hi my name is Stitch and I’m an active member of FIERCE. I recently had the chance to attend and co-facilitate a Future Friday workshop on Budgeting. I had a fun time refreshing my memory about budgeting and working with Krystal on the agenda.
Future Fridays // Cooking with Krystal
Analysis & Reflections | Francois, Active Member | Tuesday September 7, 2010 6:45
It was a first-of-its kind cooking class with Krystal, a workshop that's part of our Youth Development Program at FIERCE. I went because I like cooking and the atmosphere of friends preparing meals together. I got to have that and so much more during the event. There were new and familiar faces, so many faces that we had to get more chairs for the conference room, where we went over why we were having this workshop. Workshops at FIERCE all have a purpose: to be fun and informational and sometimes both. I didn’t think this event would be informational. But I was surprised what I learned.

Hi, my name is Balder, but during the United States Social Forum, I went by Elegost or Rudy. I am an active member of FIERCE. I attend the USSF because it was a great chance for me and for FIERCE to meet new people outside of New York and to really connect with activists and organizers from around the nation. It was also an amazing chance to learn new things from the huge selection of workshops that were going on.

After going to the "Creating Change" conference in February in Dallas, Texas, where I attended a queer youth of color summit hosted by FIERCE, the United States Social Forum was brought to my attention by organizers in my own city and by those I had made relationships with from all over the nation in Dallas.
