Since its inception in 2002, the Education for Liberation Project (ELP) has been the cornerstone of FIERCE’s leadership development work to build the power of LGBTQ youth of color.   In 2009, FIERCE members, staff and allies celebrated in a big way as we graduated the largest ELP classes in the history of the organization.  This year alone, over 27 members have moved through the program, which is a three-level, paid internship for new and active members.

On Monday, August 10th, nearly 30 people gathered at FIERCE for our first-ever interactive West Village Walking Tour for Donors and Allies.  The evening was a huge success, bringing together active members, donors, allies, Board members, FIERCE alumni, and staff, to learn more about LGBTQ history in the West Village, particularly the often-forgotten contributions of LGBTQ people of color, and how gentrification has impacted the neighborhood over the years.  We shared personal anecdotes that enriched our living history, celebrated how far we’ve come and rallied around our continued fight for a West Village that is safe for all, 24 hours a day.

FIERCE Hires New Communications Director

Welcome aboard, Manny!

FIERCE is excited to announce its newest staff member, Communications Director Ellen “Manny” Vaz.  Ellen is responsible for helping to carry out the organization’s communications strategy, media advocacy initiatives, and working with FIERCE members on independent media projects.   She will also be supporting FIERCE’s grassroots fundraising initiatives, including the annual Bowl-a-thon and Major Donor Campaign.
